THIS WEEK: Local Partner: Many Moons Festival! Online: Small Wonders at Gallery 202, Podcast: The Humble Grape; EVENTS: Debra Seal’s Art Show: Contours, Apple U-pick at Gold Ridge, get ‘em while you can!
Dear Reader,
The Many Moons festival is back on October 3 and promises to be a wonderful day at Ives Park. Celebrating Asian American, South and Southeast Asian, and Pacific Islander cultures, the festival will feature dancing, workshops, a feast of foods and drinks (many of which are made by local businesses) art and more. Don’t miss it!
And speaking of art, there’s a new gallery in town. It’s a small space, and by that I mean really small. Gallery 202 is located inside a renovated cabinet—akin to a little library but for viewing art—tiny art, latest exhibit is by Greg Knight. And while you’re gallery hopping in Petaluma, stop into Studio LZ in WTRSHD for two (full-sized) exhibits: meet artist Debra Seal and see her show Contours; and attend opening night of Antarctica: The Frozen Desert Photographs by Vegar Abelsnes.
On the food and wine front, there’s an apple u-pick this weekend at Gold Ridge, and Clark and Daedalus continue their food conversation this week on the podcast. They’re talking about one of our local crops, the grape—and not just as something to make into wine. Clark even mentions tossing a few into the freezer for tiny popsicles later—maybe to enjoy at the tiny art gallery?
Have a great weekend!
Kary

ON THE WEBSITE: Small Wonders at Gallery 202
Most galleries invite you to step inside, but Petaluma’s Gallery 202 insists that you step a little bit closer. The miniature exhibition space on Dana Street in Petaluma is the creation of Annee Knight and features the work of Greg Knight. The entire museum fits in a cabinet. For Knight, the challenge went beyond shrinking the artwork. She wanted the viewer to feel that the gallery could be a real place if only they were small enough to enter it.
THIS WEEK’S PODCAST: Grapes of Worth
In this episode, Clark Wolf and Daedalus Howell consider the humble grape—from old-fashioned varieties bursting with flavor to novelty cultivars engineered to taste like cotton candy. Clark recounts the tangled history of some local farmers markets and looks ahead to the Farmers Lane market’s move to the Veterans Memorial Building in Santa Rosa. Also discussed: produce-stand etiquette, the perils of suing a farmers market and why no one needs a “support emu” among the zucchini.

EVENT: Meet the Artist: Debra Seal’s Human Landscape Contours
4-6pm September 26 at Studio LZ The WaterShed, 429 1st St Ste 130, Petaluma. Exhibit on view Tue–Sat 11am–5pm until mid October
Debra Seal’s new exhibition, Contours, invites viewers to encounter the human form with fresh eyes. By transforming the body into abstract, landscape-like compositions, the work moves beyond familiar social assumptions and encourages an appreciation of its raw shapes, texture, and natural beauty. Drawing on an extensive career in art direction and print production, including work with people such as Jane Fonda, David LaChapelle, and R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, Debra brings a highly developed visual sensibility to these thought-provoking works, presenting them with beauty and thoughtful precision.
EVENT: Opening Night—Antarctica: The Frozen Desert Photographs by Vegar Abelsnes 4-7pm, September 26th, 2026, at 1st Street Gallery, The WaterShed, 1st & G Petaluma. Exhibit on view September through November.
Traveling to some of the most remote and inhospitable coastlines on Earth, Abelsnes has photographed a landscape that exists almost entirely outside of human time. Abelsnes describes the project as an act of stewardship as much as art-making—an attempt to put Antarctica’s fragility and its almost incomprehensible age in front of audiences who will never stand on the ice themselves, or who may be inspired and decide to make it a destination.
