THIS WEEK— Local Partner: The Many Moons Festival; Podcast: Where’s the Beef?; Online: Breathe easy with Canairy; and Ranch Grown Pumpkins!
Every fall, the Many Moons festival comes to Sebastopol via the Asian American Pacific Islander Coalition (AAPIC) of the North Bay with lots of entertainment, food and art for our entire community. Head over to Ives Park on Saturday to enjoy the day and revel in the shortening days of fall.
With autumn, comes the second allergy season of the year, but never fear, Canairy is here! Canairy is a Sonoma county based air quality app that pulls info from a variety of sources to tell you about the air out there. Then you can decide if you need to wear your mask or take your allergy meds.
The print edition of Made Local Magazine will be out at the end of October, more on that next week! In the meantime, you can read our weekly articles online, listen to our podcast (this week Clark and Daedalus beef about beef) and subscribe to this newsletter to hear from us about all things local.
Best,
Kary

PODCAST: Where’s the Beef?
A package of grapes sends Daedalus Howell and Clark Wolf down a winding path through water use, Sonoma County pumpkin patches, and a vineyard now making room for cattle. Then a national meat recall raises a question closer to the dinner table: How much do we know about where our beef comes from?
Clark and Daedalus discuss food inspection, country of origin and the local ranchers who are doing it right. They also give a shout-out to Petaluma’s Canteen Meats and find time for a story about beef cheeks that once stumped the Beef Council. Listen on Spotify or Apple podcasts>
ONLINE: Air Apparent: SoCo’s Canairy App
Santa Rosa’s NunnCurtis Labs offers a little breathing room with its recently released app “Canairy.” The app takes checking air local air quality to the next level, and for anyone who has spent a smoky Sonoma County afternoon refreshing an air quality map, we’re here for it.
Created by couple and collaborators Jason Curtis and Jennifer Nunn, the app grew from concern for a family members with asthma that made checking their local air quality a daily task. Wildfires gave that concern an unwelcome boost during the 2017 Tubbs Fire, when they evacuated on their son’s birthday (he ended up opening birthday presents in a Sacramento hotel that year).
